Vegetable for the day: Lettuce

Lettuce is said to be a fat free, low calorie food and is good for a well balanced diet. It is a valueable source of Vitamin A and folic acid.
Our family usually eats it fresh with no added dressing. We match it with fried foods like the common burger and fish fillet. A good friend also taught us to add whole corn kernels and century tuna with it, for a change. He he!
However, there are times when we are hesistant in buying a lot of this vegetable because of its relatively high price. Compared to other native vegetables in the Philippines, a kilo of lettuce is very expensive.
I remember buying a lot of lettuce when I went to Baguio where a kilo of lettuce used to be 20 pesos only. Now, we get to buy if for as much as 60 to 80 pesos per kilo in our local super market.
